gaudi'nin kiliseyi bitirmek için senelerce şantiyede yaşadığı, öz bakımını neredeyse tanınmayacak hale gelecek kadar yitirdiği söylenir. zaten bu yüzden bir gece kiliseden çıktığında altında kaldığı at arabasının sürücüsü onu tanıyamamış, ispanya'nın bu en büyük mimarı ilgisizlikten sefil olmuş ve hayatını kaybetmiştir.
hep bitirilmediğinden söz edilir ya; insan kilisenin çevresinde aynı taşı önce kiliseye doğru, sonra kiliseden uzak bir noktaya, sonra tekrar kiliseye doğru, sonra aşağı ve sonra yukarı... biçimde taşıyan o pek çalışkan(!) vinci görünce neden bitirilemediğini gülümseyerek anlıyor* sadece bugüne kadar ziyaret eden yabancı turistlerin ödediği müze giriş ücretleri, yerli turistlerin bağışları onlarca sagrada familia'yı defalarca bitirmeye yetecektir, ancak bitmeyen bir gaudi eseri elbette daha çarpıcı*
